Mafu is from West Africa, The Gambia and is a 'jeli' ( hereditary musician, historians, praise-singers and musical entertainers among the Manding people). As the grandson of kora legend Alhagie Bai Konte, Mafu started his musical journey learning balaphone with his grandfather, Mohamed Susso. As a young Jeli Mafu pursued the kora, which has become his focus and passion.
